How it works

The free trial

Each Mac gets 7 days with everything unlocked, starting when you finish setting up Updately on it. No card and no account needed. The trial belongs to the Mac, so it runs once per Mac: reinstalling or making a new account doesn't restart it.

Your Macs

A purchase is a lifetime license on your Updately account. Sign in on a Mac and add it from the app, up to your plan's number of Macs. You can remove a Mac yourself to make room for another, except the Mac you're using. A removed Mac loses access until you add it back, or sign in on it and add it.

Codes

Got a code from a giveaway? Redeem it in the app while signed in. It gives your account the number of Macs the code says, and never lowers what you already have. Each code works once.

Questions

More in the terms and on the support page.

Can I upgrade later?
Yes. Buying a bigger plan later replaces the smaller one, and your account gets the larger number of Macs. There is no partial credit: the earlier purchase isn't refunded or discounted. If you think you'll need more Macs, the bigger plan costs less than buying twice.
Can I get a refund?
All sales are final, so please use the free trial first. Rights the law gives you aren't affected, and billing mistakes get fixed. See the refund policy.
Can I use it on my family's Macs?
A license is for your own Macs, signed in to your own account. Anyone else should use their own account and license, and each of their Macs gets its own free trial.
Does it work offline?
Yes, for up to 72 hours at a time. Updately checks your license when it opens and every so often while it runs. If it can't reach the server, it keeps working for up to 72 hours after its last check-in. A Mac that has never reached the server gets 24 hours.
Is it a subscription?
No. You pay once, and the license is yours for life. There is nothing to renew.
Do I need an account?
Not for the trial. To buy a plan or redeem a code you sign in, because the license is kept on your account. That's also how a new Mac picks it up.
Who handles the payment?
Polar (polar.sh) is the Merchant of Record. It takes the payment, handles sales tax or VAT and sends your receipt. I never see your card details.
