What to include in a report
- Your macOS version and your Mac model (Apple menu › About This Mac).
- Your Updately version (Updately › About Updately).
- The app the problem is about, and its version.
- What you did, what you expected, and what happened instead.

Common questions
Why does an app show “Can’t verify”?
Updately only says an app is up to date when it can prove it. “Can’t verify” means it couldn’t, usually for one of these reasons:
- It found no update source for the app: no App Store receipt, Sparkle feed, Homebrew cask or GitHub repository.
- It found a source, but the version numbers there can’t be compared with the installed version.
- The source didn’t answer (for example, the app’s update server was down).
- It’s an Apple app that macOS Software Update keeps current.
Select the app in Updately to see the exact reason and every source it checked.
Why does Updately need App Management permission?
macOS asks for your permission before one app can change or remove apps made by other developers. Without it, macOS blocks the update and nothing is changed. Turn it on in System Settings › Privacy & Security › App Management › Updately. You can also jump there from Updately’s Settings › Permissions.
What is the notch panel, and how do I turn it off?
When Updately isn’t open, new updates can drop down from the top of the screen (around the notch) at a quiet moment, so you can update, snooze or open the app right there. It waits out quiet hours and full-screen apps.
To turn it off, go to Settings › Updates › “Show updates from the notch” and choose Never (menu bar count only), or click “Don’t Show from the Notch” on the panel when it appears. Updates will then show as a count on the menu bar icon.
How do I delete my account and data?
In Updately, go to Settings › Account › Delete My Library and Account…. This removes your Library backup, your license and the Macs on it, and your account. A license can’t be restored after that. The record that a Mac has used its free trial stays, without your account attached, so that Mac still won’t get a second trial. You can also email support@updately.dev and I will do it for you. The app works without an account, and your scan results and preferences stay on your Mac either way. See the Privacy Policy for details.
How does restoring to a new Mac work?
If you’re signed in, Updately keeps a Library of your apps and their update sources. On the new Mac, install Updately, sign in to the same account and open the Library. For each app, Updately picks the best way back:
- Mac App Store apps open on their App Store page.
- Other apps are downloaded from their Homebrew cask, Sparkle feed or GitHub release, and installed only if the download passes the same checks as an update.
- If Updately can’t verify a download for an app, it links you to the app’s website so you can install it yourself.
Only apps are restored, never your files or any app’s data.
How does the free trial work?
Each Mac gets 7 days with every feature, starting when you finish setting up Updately on it (onboarding). You don’t need a card or an account. The trial belongs to the Mac, so reinstalling or signing in with another account doesn’t restart it. Purchases aren’t open yet: during early access everything is free.
What do the plans cost?
One payment, no subscription: $2.99 for up to 2 macs, $4.99 for up to 5 macs, $9.99 for unlimited macs. Every plan has every feature. The license is kept on your Updately account. Details are on the pricing page, and sales are final (see the Refund Policy).
How do I add or remove a Mac?
Sign in to your account in Updately on the Mac and add it from the app. If every place on your license is taken, remove another Mac from the app first. You can’t remove the Mac you’re using. A removed Mac loses access the next time it checks in, until you add it back or sign in on it and add it.
How do I redeem a code?
Sign in to Updately and enter the code in the app. Capital letters and dashes don’t matter. A code works once, gives your account the number of Macs it states, and never lowers a license you already have. “Already used” means someone redeemed it before you; “cancelled” means it was withdrawn.
Does it work without internet?
Yes, for up to 72 hours after its last check-in with the licensing server. A Mac that has never reached the server gets 24 hours. Checking for updates needs the internet anyway.
Which Macs does Updately run on?
macOS 14 Sonoma or later, on Apple silicon and Intel Macs.
